64 suspected illegal workers in March

Operations against illegal workers carried out by government agencies, acting both independently and jointly, found 64 suspected illegal workers during inspections across 295 locations. The operations were conducted by the Public Security Police Force, the Labour Affairs Bureau and other authorities in March 2022 at construction sites, private flats, commercial and industrial establishments. Last month, authorities detected a total of 30 suspected illegal workers in its inspection of 302 locations.

56% of employers yet to pay FSS contribution 

About 14,000 employers have not yet paid their employees’ obligatory system contributions to the Social Security System for the first quarter of 2022, accounting for about 56% of the total number of employers required to pay contributions. The Social Security Fund (FSS) is calling on employers and residents to make greater use of the electronic payment channels or to use the appointment service. For the Social Security System, April is the contribution month for the first quarter of 2022.  According to the law, businesses which miss the payment deadline must pay interest on the delayed payment, as well as a fine.

Another returnee tests positive

A returnee from Singapore has been recorded as an imported asymptomatic case of Covid-19 following a positive nucleic acid test result on April 18. The 41-year-old resident was given three doses of the mRNA vaccine in July and December 2021 and denied ever having had Covid-19. Tests carried out in Singapore on April 11, 12 and 14 all returned a negative result. Although the man’s test upon arrival was negative, the next day, the resident tested positive and was transferred to the medical isolation facility in Coloane. 87 cases of asymptomatic infection have been registered in Macau since the beginning of the pandemic.
