The Land and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU) has launched a public consultation on a draft detailed plan for the development of Zone A of the new landfills, which according to the Urban Master Plan, has been named Operative Unit of Planning and Management East-2.
Although there is a lot of construction already ongoing in the area, the final plan for the development of the 76 land plots that comprise a total area of 1.74 square kilometers, has not been finalized and approved.
In the draft plan published by the DSSCU, it is now clear that the government intends to keep the largest slice of the area (40.7%) for public open-air spaces and green areas, followed by housing usage (24.8%) and land purposed for educational and social equipment usage (12.7%).
An important slice of the area (17.6%) is also reserved for streets and roads, while commercial usage (which includes all restaurants, supermarkets and other retail stores) accounts for only 0.9%.
The government plan proposes the phased construction of a total of 32,000 housing units from which the large majority (28,000) are public housing units.
The same plan expects that by 2040 there will be around 96,000 people residing in this new area of the city.
The public consultation period started October 7 and will run until December 5, a period of 60 days.
Members of the public can submit their opinions via the common channels, namely online at a dedicated website (www.dsscu.gov.mo/pt/sites/uopge2), by email, by post or in person at the DSSCU headquarters.
Opinions can also be expressed in three public presentation sessions organized for members of the public, as well as in a session specially arranged to hear from representatives of local community associations.
