GBA: Hengqin’s Haiqin Bridge opened to traffic

Recently, Hengqin’s Haiqin Bridge was opened to traffic. So far, Hengqin Financial Island has completed the construction of five bridges for entry/exit. It marks that the area has also completed the construction of all municipal infrastructure and supporting projects. Being the gateway towards Hengqin Financial Island and inland waterways, the Haiqin Bridge is located at the entrance of Hengqin’s artificial river, with the main arch of the steel structure of the bridge body at 58 meters height, 192 meters span and almost 1,100 tons weight. Hengqin Financial Island covers an area of 130,000 square meters and connects to the outside through five bridges. The infrastructure facility is aimed at enhancing the development of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Record number of local high school students apply for mainland universities

More than 1,400 senior high school students in the SAR sat the entrance exam for universities in the Chinese mainland on Saturday, a record high number, according to the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ). A total of 109 mainland universities will recruit 1,339 Macau students; nine universities were added to the list thanks to support from the Ministry of Education. The Ministry aims to help Macau develop its major industries and nurture talents on science and engineering, the bureau said. The first round of results will be released Sunday. Students who do not receive offers from their preferred universities may continue to apply to others.
