The extension of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) to Barra will undergo the final phase of testing this month, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) has announced.
In a statement recently released, the DSOP disclosed that the general test for carriages and the system as well as simulations of the LRT Taipa Line will start in the middle of this month. It also underlined that the test for the transport to extend service to Barra “has entered its final stage.”
It added that the test for the extension started in January this year and progressed shoulder-to-shoulder with the LRT Limited. A total of 264 non-operational hours from 96 nights were used to test the system. Meanwhile, both the system and carriages shall be updated to facilitate the future opening of the extension, the DSOP added.
The prominent adjustments that passengers will experience is that the route map shown on carriage displays will start indicating Barra Station, according to the DSOP. At the same time, Lotus Checkpoint Station will be renamed as Lotus Station. Both adjustments will be enacted on Aug. 11.
Printed signage will be updated in phases and the DSOP pledged that it will be concluded by the end of November. AL
