Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said that the high-level meeting between Fujian and Macau officials and the Fujian-Macau Cooperation Conference mechanism had laid a solid foundation for cooperation between the two places.
Over the years, the two governments had actively participated in, and contributed to, the construction of the Belt and Road initiative, worked together to expand the markets of Portuguese-speaking countries, and continued to promote cooperation between Fujian and Macau, according to Ho.
People from Fujian account for one-quarter of the total population of Macau, or circa 160,000 individuals. The delegation for this week’s visit to Fujian included 70 Macau entrepreneurs, most of them with links to Fujian. Their hope was for further promotion of existing cooperation between the two places and creating broader prospects for fresh cooperation.
The Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Zhou Zuyi, thanked the MSAR Government for “always attaching great importance to cooperation between Fujian and Macao, and for providing high-quality and continuous support to the development of all aspects of Fujian Province.”
Secretary Zhou said that Fujian’s development momentum was improving.
That included the strengthening of economic and trade exchanges with Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa and South America, as well as Fujian continuing actively to integrate into the deployment of the country’s Belt and Road initiative.
