The 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, MGM and the Ursa Major Sailing Management, co-organized by the Marine and Water Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Macao Sailing Association, and supported by the Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, has officially concluded recently. A total of 37 teams, consisting of approximately 300 team members from 31 countries and regions, have competed in three events, including the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 Unified Design Group), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC group) and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group).
To further promote ‘Sports+’, “2024 MGM Macao International Regatta – Family Fun Day” was held at the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront, featuring sailing experiences, family workshops, and live broadcasts of the races.
The event allowed residents and tourists to participate in the event in various ways and to deepen their understanding of sailing sport. In addition, the “2024 MGM Macao International Regatta – Photography Competition” was conducted to enhance audiences’ enjoyment and participation of the competition.
MGM also invited 70 families from the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao and the Women’s General Association of Macao to enjoy the fleet parade, followed by a professional instructor’s presentation the Fareast-11 sailboat, as well as a number of sailing-themed parent-child workshops and remote-control sailing races to give children a taste of what it’s like to be a windsurfing athlete. Many participants were excited to enjoy the experience of being a windsurfer.
The 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta is an international regatta hosted by Macao, with its extraordinary geographical advantages – a coastline of 76.7 km. This maritime sports event is aiming to promote sports exchanges between Macau, mainland China, and the international community, which at the same time also drives the coordinated development of various industries in Macau, such as sports, culture, and tourism, helping to build Macau into a “City of Sports.” To facilitate Macau as the World Center of Tourism and Leisure, MGM will stay dedicated to organizing diversified events and further showcasing Macau’s charm of “Tourism+”.
