Dr Lei Wai Seng and Dr Chou Kuok Hei, both from the Health Bureau (SSM), have been appointed deputy head or equivalent at the Cotai hospital, according to the Official Gazette.
The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong made the appointment.
Lei formerly worked at the Accident and Emergency Department at the public Conde de São Januário Hospital and was one of the hospital’s medical directors.
As the preparatory work for the Cotai hospital accelerated, the doctor was promoted to the position of director of the hospital’s preparatory office.
Lei holds a Bachelor in Medicine from Jinan University in Guangzhou, a Master’s in public management from Peking University and a Diploma in medical leadership from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Chou has been appointed to a position equivalent to the deputy head of the hospital.
He and Lei both studied at the same institutions for both Bachelor and Master levels as well as his Diploma, and specializes in family medicine.
He started his career at the public hospital in 1988 and has held chief or managerial positions in the areas of tuberculosis prevention and treatment, as well as the expansion of the SSM. He is also part of Cotai hospital’s preparatory team.
The two appointments will end Sep. 30, 2025.
Pursuant to the hospital’s charter, there should be no more than six deputy heads or equivalent positions. They will be responsible for different aspects of work, such as medical education and research, administration and finance as well as external relations.
