The Chief Executive (CE), Ho Iat Seng, will today travel to Beijing for the opening ceremony of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress Tuesday, March 5.
Until CE’s return Wednesday, March 6, the Secretary for Administration and Justice, André Cheong, will occupy the post.
Concurrently, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will hold a session as part of the so-called “China’s Two Sessions” that occur every year in March.
The CPPCC meeting starts today, while the NPC meeting kicks off tomorrow. The meetings are likely to conclude March 11.
The “Two Sessions” are of great importance for those following China’s policies.
The president and Secretary-General of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi Jinping, will likely discuss topics to be developed at the Third Plenum of the Party’s Central Committee, analysts say.
The Central Committee traditionally approves economic reforms.
At the same time, Premier Li Qiang will deliver his first government work report on behalf of the State Council at the NPC’s opening session. RM
