Gov’t funds 70 athletes with intellectual disabilities in 2023

The government supported 70 athletes with intellectual disabilities in 2023, according to the Sports Bureau (ID). In a reply to an interpellation from lawmaker Nick Lei, the government said the bureau funded various sports associations for people with disabilities to hire 14 coaches and psychological counsellors and subsidized 70 athletes with intellectual disabilities. The ID said it has also given qualified sports facilities under its jurisdiction barrier-free equipment and facilities and continues to optimize them to make them more convenient for those in need.
