The Environmental Protection Bureau (DSAMA) conducted an emergency response drill recently to test its infrastructure’s ability to handle typhoon conditions. The exercise simulated power outages and flooding during a storm. The bureau activated plans to switch its waste incineration center to “island mode” power to maintain operations. It also tested installing flood gates at a sewage plant. Additional incinerators were activated to quickly process post-storm garbage. Manpower was increased to expedite unloading at dumps and routes were set up for garbage trucks and cleaners. A construction waste landfill was prepared to operate 24 hours a day for timely debris removal.
