A 60-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian recently while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. at the intersection Av. da República and Gonzaga Gomes/ Auto-Silo Da Rua De Malaca. Authorities said that the driver, whose identity has not been released, hit a passerby who was crossing a zebra crossing, causing multiple contusions on the victim’s body. A breath test revealed the driver had a blood alcohol content of 1.62 grams per liter, well over the legal limit. The driver admitted to drinking at home the night before the accident. He has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
