The Macau government has announced the extension of landline service licenses for local telecom providers CTM and MTel, according to the government gazette. The licenses will be renewed for an additional year, from Oct. 1, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2025. This decision follows the government’s previous announcement in Dec. 2023, which granted a nine-month extension to the two-year licenses that were originally set to expire at the end of 2023. Derby Lau Wai Meng, the director of the Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT), had stated earlier this year that the authorities would strive for industry reforms within the nine-month extension period to ensure a fair market environment.
