Over 7,000 individuals repaying student loans

Iun Pui Iun, deputy director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, said there are still over 7,000 individuals repaying student loans as of the 2023/2024 school year.  Occasionally, the authorities receive requests from beneficiary students for a “temporary suspension” of repayment, usually due to reasons like pursuing further studies or health-related issues preventing them from making monthly repayments.  Repayers are required to provide evidence of their circumstances, such as health or education, and the authorities will promptly approve and notify them of a new repayment plan. In cases where income has decreased due to unemployment or underemployment, individuals can submit an employment certificate to request a reduced monthly repayment amount.
