With a commitment to advancing sustainable development, technological innovation, and green technology education in Macau, MGM joins hands with the Macao Science Center (MSC) to launch the three-year “Sustainable Development Innovation & Technology and Green Skills Education Campaign” (Campaign), to organize a series of science popularization activities themed on science and green development. This partnership aims to enhance the participants’ knowledge, skills, values, and perspectives in this field, as well as drive their contribution to a sustainable and resource-efficient environment.
The Campaign’s inaugural project “Shaping a Green Lifestyle Together” is a national youth science popularization competition – organized by the China Green Building Council of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies – specifically for Form 2 to 5 students nationwide.
This competition allows the participants to embrace real-life and experiential learning revolving around the plastic waste issue, learning how to transform recycled plastic bottles into inventive tools.
Meanwhile, these participants will have a deeper understanding of applying “4R” (reduce, reuse, recycle, and replace) green concepts in their daily lives, which also encourages them to adopt a green, low-carbon, and healthy lifestyle.
MGM also hosted a “plastic upcycling” workshop for local students at the Macao Science Center, where plastic bottle caps were creatively upgraded and transformed into unique living goods.
This hands-on experience not only enriched their knowledge on the current trends of solid waste management in Macau, but also emphasized the significance of minimizing unnecessary waste and pollution in daily life.
Beyond offering various upcoming science popularization activities, MGM and MSC will also co-establish Macau’s first educational space focused on youth green skills, providing a platform to nurture the city’s future green professionals.
Through these efforts, we aspire to raise students’ and public awareness of the current environmental situation, which helps elevate Macau into an eco-friendlier and more sustainable society.
