According to the Public Construction Bureau (DSOP), the tender for the design and construction of the Grand Taipa Tunnel and its southern link is now open to bids. Interested construction firms have until Dec. 11 to submit proposals.
The construction of the Taipa Grande Tunnel project is divided into two parts. The first tender covers the main tunnel and the southern connection, which has completed the initial qualification stage and is now in the proposal submission phase. The second tender focuses on the northern connection, which will include an 890-meter viaduct linking the tunnel to the Macau Bridge.
For the first tender, five pre-qualified companies were invited to submit bids. The DSOP emphasized the need for a detailed execution plan from bidders, as the proposal must convince officials the project can be completed safely and with minimal disruption to surrounding traffic.
The second tender involves constructing a new vehicular flyover connecting the border-crossing Macau Bridge to the northern entrance of the Taipa Grande Tunnel. Spanning approximately 890 meters with four lanes in each direction, the elevated roadway will soar over parklands and reach up to 23 meters above the light rail line at its highest point.
Due to the project’s technical complexity and potential for disruption, bidders have been asked to provide detailed execution plans to guarantee construction accuracy and safety while minimizing impact on traffic. Officials are requesting extraordinarily detailed execution plans from bidders, as the lofty viaduct poses complex engineering challenges and any errors can seriously impact traffic and safety.
With these two major tenders underway, the Taipa Grande Tunnel project is progressing steadily towards its next phase of development. Bidders must prove they have the expertise, experience and vision to pull off this ambitious project without delays or disruptions to daily commutes. Victoria Chan
