Local rugby team, the Macau Bats played in their first Hong Kong festival of season Sunday. The club took four teams to compete at the USRC Tigers festival at King’s Park and the U12s in the Richard Hawkes Cup at Happy Valley.
Despite the early start, the U7s came out of the traps fast and fortunately scored tries faster than they were letting them in! The young Bats racked up impressive wins over Tai Po, Sandy Bay, Aberdeen and the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC).
The U8s did well – a narrow loss to Valley Fort; a draw with Stingrays; and wins against Kukris and Tigers while the U9s played strong and very positive rugby resulting in four convincing wins against Tuen Mun Sharks, Tsuen Wan Rhinos, Kukris and Monkeys.
Meanwhile, over at Happy Valley, the U12s got their season of to a great start as well – three wins and a draw – Football Club (8-0); DB Pirates (6-1); Valley Fort (3-0) and Tin Shui Wai Eagles (2-2). Next round of games is scheduled for Nov. 24. Donald Shaw, MDT
