Chief Executive (CE) Sam Hou Fai toured local neighborhoods last week, aiming to gather insights into business conditions and community sentiments during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Accompanied by Secretary for Economy and Finance Tai Kin Ip, Hou visited Rua dos Ervanários, Rua da Tercena, Rua de Cinco de Outubro, and Largo do Pagode do Bazar, where he greeted merchants and residents amid the festive atmosphere.
During the visit, Sam stressed the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the business environment.
He expressed a desire for more residents and enterprises to benefit from economic development, emphasizing the significance of understanding the needs of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
The CE was updated on a work plan designed to enhance community economies and assist small businesses in refining their operations.
He engaged with local shopkeepers, encouraging them to adopt modernization while actively listening to their concerns about current economic conditions.
He observed that there is a vibrant creative culture in the area that could be further developed. His discussions with business owners revealed a strong appreciation for government assistance in shop design and renovations.
However, many business leaders called for continued support measures to further boost the local economy.
The CE reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the business landscape, especially during festivals. Local business owners reported an uptick in foot traffic due to the pedestrian zone and expressed hopes for similar initiatives in the future, highlighting a shared optimism for a revitalized community economy.
