Two residents, 51 and 79 years old, have been reportedly injured in a blaze that occurred yesterday morning at the Lake Building in Taipa.
According to reports on-site, the flames broke out around 7 a.m. and were allegedly caused by an electrical short circuit inside a residential unit on the seventh floor of Block 5 of the public housing building.
According to the Fire Services Bureau (CB), both injured were residents of the unit where the fire occurred. They were found unconscious by firefighters and transported to the public hospital for emergency treatment.
Eight other people on three floors sought help and were assisted by firefighters, but they did not require medical assistance.
The CB also noted the fire had spread and partially affected two other residential units.
Some residents from the building complained that the fire alarm system had not sounded, but the CB said that when they arrived at the scene, the fire alarm was operating.
According to a statement from the Social Welfare Bureau, none of the residents have solicited help from the bureau for temporary lodging. The CB is investigating to ascertain the causes of the fire. RM
