The U.S. State Department says an embassy guard in Qatar has been lightly wounded in an assault.
In a statement it says that the guard received “superficial injuries” from the assault yesterday and that the attacker has been taken into custody by Qatari authorities.
The statement did not reveal the nationality of the guard or provide further details about the identity of the attacker.
Violence against foreigners or foreign targets is a rare occurrence in the energy-rich Arab nation. Qatar hosts the al-Udeid Air Base, which is the main hub for coordinating warplanes from the U.S.-led coalition carrying out bombing raids against Islamic State group targets in Iraq and Syria.
