The Macau International Film and Video Festival (MIFVF) organized the competition “48 Rush Hours” last weekend, asking film makers to create a 3-minute video in just 48 hours using any kind of shooting equipment, as a challenge of creativity and skills.
The topic, “Journey”, was announced last Friday to 57 applicants who had to produce and deliver a video before Saturday at 10 a.m. Twenty nine productions were submitted and the Grand Prize went to “Love Journey of a Turtle,” by Leong Wai Man. Four Distinction Prizes were granted to “Concrete Jungle,” by Loi Chon Pang, “The Bicycle Diaries,” by Filipa Queiroz, “Live Turning Point,” by Lo Hoi Fong and “On The Street,” by Can Can.
The films were assessed by three judges, namely António Caetano Faria (local director), Wei Jiang (lecturer at the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University) and See Kam Chan (UMAC assistant professor), who came up with their best picks.
According to a press release issued by the Macau Cultural Centre, “all three juries considered the productions this year as having great diversity and more mature filming techniques, though the narration skills should be worked on.” The video challenge, they pointed out, “is an excellent exercise and platform for young directors to consolidate their skills and show their creativity.”
MIFVF 2015 continues with a string of educational events next week, followed by the Macao Indies, running from May 12 to 17.
