The latest statistics from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) have shown that the total number of beds for in-patients in five local hospitals has doubled over the past year, with the occupancy rate standing at 75.8 percent.
As the report indicates, in the past year the hospitals have seen a growing number of patients staying in hospitals overnight, increasing by 3.2 percent to 52,000, with the average amount of stay-
in days reaching 7.3 days. Patients aged below 15 rose by 3.4 percent, while those aged above 15 dropped by 3.1 percent.
Up to 1,513,000 out-patient consultations were offered last year, up by around 5 percent year-on-
year. A total of 462,000 used emergency services in the previous year.
When it comes to blood donation, only 10,018 donors contributed to the local blood bank, down by 8.4 percent. The number of first-time donors also fell by 14.1 percent compared to last year.
In 2014, a total of 1,592 doctors and 1,990 nurses were serving throughout the city, up by 5.2 and 7.3 percent respectively. For every 1,000 people, there were around 2.5 doctors and 3.1 nurses to take care of them, according to the data.
