The Transportation Infrastructure Office (GIT) announced that the construction of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Pai Kok Station on the Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança in central Taipa will begin today.
Given that the station is located at the major arterial road between Taipa and Coloane, the contractor will be converting part of the pavement and parking spaces into a temporary road. This will ensure that the Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança will continue to open two lanes in both directions during the construction.
It is estimated that this temporary traffic arrangement will remain in place for approximately 12 months.
According to the information from GIT, the Pai Kok station will connect Cotai and Old Taipa Village. Several education and healthcare facilities, including Kiang Wu Hospital, Taipa Portuguese School and Sam Yuk Middle School are located nearby it.
GIT believes that LRT can provide a convenient channel for the new hotels and tourism area in the area, as well as bringing tourists to the old Taipa area.
Pai Kok Station is the first LRT station to begin construction in central Taipa. The office said that, following the installation of other major components in the LRT Taipa section such as the piers, contractors will start building other stations in Taipa this year.
