Local Muslims gather to mark end of Ramadan

The local Muslim community came together last Saturday at the Macau Mosque and Cemetery in celebration of Eid-Al-Fitr, a religious holiday that marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
Hundreds of Muslims, decked out in colorful clothes, started their Eid congregational prayers at 10 a.m. The imam, the Islamic leader for worship, presided over a 15-minute celebration.
Adnan Nasim, a member at the Muslim Community of Macau, said the city enjoys its own diverse Muslim community. “We have Muslims from America, some people came from America also today, we have Indonesians, Malaysians, from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma… Macau is a little unique, we have created our own program, which you will not find anywhere in the world and we are very proud of it because this is the identity of Macau Muslims,” he told TDM.
The annual religious observance takes place on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and lasts for 29-30 days, or one complete moon cycle.
