The Brazilian government is due Thursday to announce the sale of around 25 Embraer aircraft to Chinese airlines, during the official visit of the President of China, Xi Jinping, said a source from the Brazilian president’s office.
Marco Aurélio Garcia, the International Affairs advisor to President Dilma Rousseff, said that the sale of aircraft and partnerships in infrastructure projects in Brazil, such as railways and trains, were also amongst the agreements due to be announced.
Embraer plans to expand its operations in China, a key market for the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer.
The aircraft factory that Embraer set up in Harbin, with a partner from China, stopped producing medium-haul aircraft and has since focussed on building Legacy 650 executive jets.
The president of China is due to make a State visit to Brasilia after taking part in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit, which will launch a development bank and an emergency reserve fund to boost financial cooperation between participating countries. MDT/Macauhub
