Sociedade de Jogos de Macau awarded scholarships to 41 children of staff, including new scholarships to 10 outstanding students of Year 2018 and the renewal of scholarships for 31 recipients of Year 2017, 2016, 2015 and 2014.
The 14th annual SJM Scholarship Awards Ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Lisboa.
Out of 48 applicants, 10 outstanding students were selected by the SJM Scholarship Selection Committee this year.
Each student will be awarded MOP20,000 per year until they finish their university studies.
Ambrose So, chairman of the SJM board of directors and SJM Scholarship Selection Committee, emphasized the importance of analytical thinking in his speech, as students have access to a wealth of information on the internet nowadays, hence the ability to analyze things carefully and from a wider perspective becoming crucial to solving problems and making sound judgments.
Angela Leong, managing director and chief administrative officer of SJM, remarked that the SJM Scholarship illustrates SJM’s emphasis on employee welfare, including the education of their children.
U Choi San thanked SJM for their support in nurturing talent on behalf of this year’s recipients.
The SJM Scholarship program awards outstanding children of staff and furthers their university studies. Children of SJM and STDM staff who are first-year undergraduates are eligible for application.
The program awards 10 scholarships annually to children of staff, who are each awarded MOP20,000 per year (for up to five years) until they finish their university studies.
Renewal of scholarships is based on assessment of the recipient’s academic results by the SJM Scholarship Selection Committee annually.
Since its establishment in 2005, the program has seen the graduation of 91 children of staff.
