Sun Yat-sen former residence
Travelog
Today’s journey began in the heart of history at the Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen, nestled in the tranquil Cuiheng Village. As I stepped into this significant landmark – the birthplace of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China – I felt enveloped by the echoes of the past. The site is adorned with lush greenery and features his simple, green-roofed dwelling alongside a museum that beautifully narrates his life and revolutionary pursuits.
Wandering through the serene village and museum, I was struck by a profound connection to the history that unfolded here. The atmosphere was almost reverent, allowing me to reflect on the ideals of a man whose vision reshaped a nation. This national 5A-level scenic spot invites all visitors to explore its depths, with free admission to the residence itself.
Main Industry: Advanced manufacturing – including smart home appliances, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, furniture, and garments.
After soaking in the rich history, I sought sustenance at a local restaurant, savoring Zhongshan specialties that tantalized my taste buds. Refueled, I set off for Zhan Garden – a private sanctuary steeped in traditional southern Chinese aesthetics. As I meandered through its elegant pavilions, crossed delicate bridges, and admired serene ponds, I found a moment of tranquility – a true masterclass in Lingnan horticultural artistry.

Later, I strolled through Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street, where the charm of Nanyang-style arcade buildings captured my imagination. This delightful fusion of southern Chinese and European colonial architecture is now home to a vibrant array of shops and cafés – an ideal spot for leisurely exploration and souvenir hunting.
Late afternoon
As the afternoon light softened, I ventured to the Yankou Rice Fields, eager for the day’s most picturesque moment. There, I stumbled upon a delightful coffee stand, perfectly situated beside the shimmering fields. With a warm cup of locally brewed coffee in hand, I watched as the sunset painted the landscape in hues of gold.
Visitors can walk along the paths bordering the fields or even rent a bike for a short ride through this picturesque countryside.
Evening
As night descended, Yankou Seafood Street burst into life – radiating vibrant energy. The evening ambiance added a special charm to my dining experience. Strings of lights twinkled overhead, illuminating the bustling street, and I knew I had made the right choice for dinner.
I selected fresh fish, shrimp, and crabs from the tanks, and the chefs prepared them using simple methods that highlighted their natural flavors. Dining on these delectable seafood dishes under the starlit sky – surrounded by the lively chatter of locals and fellow travelers – marked a perfect conclusion to my Zhongshan adventure.
In this beautiful city, history and nature intertwine – creating a tapestry of experiences that linger long after the last bite of seafood or the final rays of sunset.
