Last week Chief Executive Chui Sai On submitted a report to the Vice Premier of the mainland’s State Council, Han Zheng, regarding opinions and recommendations on the development of the Guangdong- Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

The report was submitted during a meeting held at the Ziguang Pavilion at Zhongnanhai in Beijing.

According to a statement from the Macau government, the report contained opinions conveyed by local authorities and “various sectors of the Macau community.”

Chui expressed during the meeting that the anticipated development plan for the Greater Bay Area should address two important issues in relation to Macau: the advantages that Macau may exploit within the Greater Bay Area to advance its economic diversification, first, and the benefits to life and work quality of local residents, second. Furthermore, according to the report the development plan for the Greater Bay Area should facilitate the ability of residents of the SARs to work and live in mainland China.

According to the statement, the Chief Executive also promised that the Macau SAR government would “follow the strategy of the Central People’s Government,” by tapping into Macau’s advantages and developing synergies with its neighboring cities.

He said that the MSAR has taken several steps thus far to support the development of the Greater Bay Area. For example, the city has adhered to the principles outlined at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in regard to its development. Meanwhile, it has also commenced a series of preliminary studies and begun preparatory work in order to facilitate the merger of the Macau SAR’s Five-Year Development Plan and the country’s development of the Greater Bay Area.
