The Public Security Police has apprehended a male college student from the mainland in his 20s, suspected of defrauding at least six women of over MOP17,000 by falsely advertising concert tickets on social media.
The incident unfolded Aug. 24, coinciding with performances by a popular Hong Kong singer and a well-known mainland boy band.
The victims had arranged to purchase tickets from the suspect via social media, agreeing to meet at noon on the day of the concert to complete the transaction.
During the meeting, the victims transferred varying amounts of money—between MOP2,700 and MOP3,400 each—to the suspect, who promised to escort them into the venue that evening.
However, when the time came, the suspect failed to appear and subsequently cut all contact.
Realizing they had been scammed, the victims reported the incident to the police.
Following an investigation, authorities discovered the suspect had left Macau on the same day as the incident.
On Sept. 22, police intercepted him upon his return through Hengqin Port.
Reports indicate he admitted spending the proceeds of his fraudulent activities. LV
