Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) has collaborated with UnionPay to officially launch the UnionPay QR code payment service, which is compatible with the EMVco QR Code Specification for Payment Systems.
According to BNU CEO Carlos Álvares, the collaboration opens up doorways for UnionPay credit/debit cardholders from Macau, Mainland China and other global destinations to make purchases using a simple scan-and-go method.
In the first phase, the service will be available to merchants that want to accept transactions from UnionPay QR code users.
Merchants that adopt this payment method are not required to install or arrange extra QR code systems or scanning devices.
In a second phase, BNU UnionPay cardholders will also be able to use this payment service.
Currently, this payment service has a single transaction limit of MOP1,000 and daily transaction limit of MOP5,000.
