The Court of Second Instance has reduced former junket mogul Levo Chan’s prison term to 13 years. The court overturned the ruling of the Court of First Instance, acquitting the former head of the defunct Tak Chun of fraud charges. In a verdict last week, the court had mandated the payment of around HKD2.49 billion to the Macau government as compensation for profits derived from “illicit gambling.” Last April, the Court of First Instance sentenced the junket kingpin to 14 years’ imprisonment for illegal gambling and gang crimes.
