The Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) is urging citizens to adopt eco-friendly behavior over the Chinese New Year. Measures such as using an eco-friendly and reusable bag for shopping, avoiding the use of unneeded packaging or buying food in a rational manner are some of the suggestions that the Bureau highlighted in a statement.
The bureau recalled that as many families take the opportunity to offer gifts throughout the holiday, they should strive to reduce the number of plastic bags they use by replacing them with eco-friendly bags.
With Chinese New Year being a holiday full of traditional delicacies, DSPA also urges citizens to not waste too much food. The Bureau also suggests that residents should recycle “laisi” envelopes, which can be reused to produce festive decorations, thus avoiding waste at the end of the holiday period.
The Bureau also advises citizens to comply with noise pollution regulations and to pay attention to the noise level of Chinese New Year parties.
Macau’s Fire Department also revealed that it held meetings with major hotel brands in Macau to exchange information on fire prevention strategies for the duration of the Chinese New Year. Authorities urged major hotel management teams to go over their own fire prevention plans; to manage the expected huge flow of tourists well; and to reinforce communication, so that both parties can be updated in case of any incidents.
The department also urged residents to notify them of any accidents, so to avoid the loss of any lives.
