Chamber executive and hotelier Rutger Verschuren has been awarded the title and rank of “Chevalier de I’Ordre National du Mérite” for establishing friendly links between France and Macau.
The award, translated as “Knight of the National Order of Merit,” was given to the chairman of France Macau Chamber of Commerce (FMCC) by the French government for his “pivotal role in fostering France-Macau economic exchanges,” said a statement issued by the chamber.
Spearheading the FMCC since 2014, Vershucren’s role as the chairman of FMCC has been marked by developments aimed at strengthening ties between France and Macau.
Vershucren also led the transformation of the Macau France Business Association to the France Macau Chamber of Commerce in 2017.
Christile Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, said, “I am particularly happy that he witnesses a surge of interest from French companies keen to partake in Macau’s revitalized business landscape.”
“Receiving this honor is a milestone in my journey, encouraging us to continue our efforts in bringing France and Macau closer. It is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared cultural appreciation,” said Verschuren on receiving the title. LV
