Glass House renovation kicks off

Renovation works on the Tap Seac Square Commercial Centre (also known as Glass House) began in early November, it has emerged.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement that the renovation covers a total area of 5,200 square meters in the five-story building, which  included three basement floors and two levels above ground.

The Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau is following up the tendering of the project, which has a construction period of around 330 days.

The project includes the reinforcement of waterproofing works, and the restoration of electrical and mechanical installations, fire safety equipment, water supply and drainage, electricity supply, surveillance and broadcasting systems. Adjustments will also be made to how some of the existing space is used.

Once the works are complete, tendering for the Glass House will be open to the public. Cultural and creative entities will be able to set up shop and promote the growth of their industries. The related works are expected to be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2017 and the Tap Seac Square Commercial Centre is expected to reopen in the second half of 2018.

During the renovation period, the “Temporary Rehearsal Venue Booking Programme of Tap Seac Square Commercial Centre” will be suspended. The “Portuguese- speaking Countries Food Products Exhibition Centre”, located in the R1 section of the venue, will remain open to the public.
