Gov’t to terminate domestic worker’s visa following alleged assault

A court has demanded the termination of a domestic helper’s working permit for the alleged physical assault of the child at the family home in which she works, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) disclosed yesterday.

The suspect is in the process of deportation.

The case was first unearthed by a video that went viral on social media networks.

In the domestic surveillance camera video, an individual can be seen grabbing a younger individual at the door of an apartment. As the video was accompanied by audio, at this moment in the video, a loud bang can be heard.

Afterwards, the door of the apartment was closed. The loud crying of an individual, believed to be the victim of the assault, may be heard.

On Monday night, the PSP said in a statement that the parents of the younger individual had been contacted. The authority confirmed that the suspect is a domestic helper from Indonesia, who was yesterday reportedly under investigation by the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).

The suspect is aged about 30 years and faces the allegation of ordinary physical assault.

Also commenting on the case, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) noted in a statement that it has contacted the police and the child’s school for follow-up. Counselling has also been arranged for the student and parents. Any psychological impact on the victim will be closely monitored, the bureau added.

The DSEDJ reiterated that it will stand against any type of child violence and condemned such acts.  AL
