Hengqin’s strategic measures to attract international talent

Hengqin’s introduction of “second-tier” closed customs control, effective tomorrow, aims to streamline the flow of people, goods, capital, and information between Macau and Hengqin. Professor Chen Guokai of the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute views this as a pivotal move to reduce import taxes, thereby boosting research funding. He notes a significant reduction in travel time to Hengqin from the University of Macau, from thirty minutes to approximately six, enhancing accessibility and convenience. Chen believes these measures are foundational for attracting international talent from Macau to Hengqin, contributing to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s development. He highlights the importance of favorable platforms and collaborative projects supported by the government and private sector to integrate talent across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, reflecting positively on Guangdong’s efforts in this arena.
