Hong Kong democrat lawmakers and netizens are criticizing pro-establishment lawmaker Ann Chiang Lai-wan for posting a video on her Facebook page explaining the process of steaming surgical face masks so they can be reused.

Her fellow lawmakers have called on the public to not follow her suggestion.

Chiang’s video has been shared thousands of times with several netizens condemning the lawmaker for the suggestion.

In the video, she said, “steam sterilization can solve the urgent need when masks are short in supply.”

Similar to the situation in Macau, Hong Kong residents have also been queuing up for face masks across stores and pharmacies amid a shortfall of protective gear in a city where 10 people have already tested positive for the 2019-nCoV.
