The International Ladies’ Club of Macau (ILCM) raised in total MOP124,000 (according to the figure provided by the organizers) during its annual Melbourne Cup charity event yesterday at the Baccarat Room, Sofitel Macau at Pointe 16.
Melbourne Cup Day, held on the first Tuesday of November every year in Melbourne, Australia, is famous for “the race that stops the nation”, as it has been an annual public holiday since 1877 in the state of Victoria.
“Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors [Gold sponsor: Bally, Silver sponsor: Aristocrat, 113 East/Fabsmart and IGT,Walker Digital and Jeanscott; and Bronze sponsor: Paltronics], ILCM members, representing over 30 countries, were exposed to Australia’s biggest sport and culture event,” said Ms Kylie Rogers and Ms. Jean Scott, coordinators of ILCM Melbourne Cup team.
According to a press release issued by ILCM, after enjoying a lavish brunch, 150 ILCM members and partners witnessed the race, broadcasted live from Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. ILCM heightened the fundraising event by selling raffle tickets and sweeps, as well as awarding prizes for Best Attire, for both lady and man, Best Hat and Best Tie.
“I am glad the [ILCM] committee trusted me to be the Master of Ceremonies again for this event. I have been attending the Melbourne Cup event with ILCM for the last 14 years. It is a great cure for homesickness; plus a lovely afternoon in the company of good friends in Macau. One needs it once a year,” stated Mr Harry Troy, a former jockey who is well-known for his works as an English race caller in the Macau Jockey Club.
The next ILCM fundraising event will be the Charity Bazaar and Family Fun Day on Sunday, November 30, at the Grand Coloane Resort, open to the public from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
