Lawyers association plans delegation to visit Portugal, foster exchanges

The Macau Lawyers Association will lead a delegation of approximately 18 individuals on a visit to Portugal, scheduled from late June to early July, president Vong Hin Fai announced yesterday in a press conference.

During the visit, there are preliminary arrangements to meet with the Portuguese Lawyers Association, explore arbitration centers, and engage with prominent universities.

Vong stated, “We will take the opportunity to cooperate with the SAR’s positioning as a China-Portuguese platform and strengthen cooperation and exchanges with local industries.”

Over the past three years, the number of registered lawyers in Macau has remained stable at around 450, while approximately 70 individuals have expressed their intent to cease practicing, many of whom have transitioned to government departments or the judicial sector.

The association currently trains around 25 lawyers annually and aspires to create favorable conditions for expanding Macau’s legal scope.

Furthermore, the group has organized a series of Lawyers Day activities, scheduled from May 11 to May 19. On the upcoming Saturday and Sunday (May 18 and 19), a free legal consultation counter will be established on the ground floor of the Macau Business Tourism Centre”. Additionally, four mainland lawyers will participate in the event, providing free advisory services to the public. HT
