Macau logs 94% success rate in tuberculosis treatment

In the past 20 years, Macau has seen an average tuberculosis recovery rate of 94.4%, “much higher than the 85% required by the WHO,” the government has said. The local multidrug resistance rate remains at around 2%, it added. According to the Health Bureau (SSM), the onset rate in the past 20 years has dropped from 109.1 per 100,000 people in 1998 to 46.2 per 100,000 people in 2023, a decrease of 57.7%. There were 316 newly registered tuberculosis cases in 2023, of which about 50% occurred in people aged 65 and over.
