Medical Council expands 2026 health survey scope

The Medical Council recently held its 11th plenary session, announcing new developments for the upcoming Macao Health Survey 2026.

To better address residents’ health concerns, officials revealed a new partnership with mainland China’s national health survey experts to expand the survey’s scope and improve data accuracy.

Chaired by Alvis Lo, director of the Health Bureau (SSM) and Medical Council chairman, the session focused on implementing the Healthy Macau Blueprint.

Lo explained that the SSM is actively collaborating with various sectors of society to promote the Blueprint, gather feedback from stakeholders, and enhance related initiatives.

He also emphasized the government’s commitment to aligning with China’s Healthy China 2030 plan by engaging multiple sectors and continuously refining strategies to ensure the Blueprint’s goals are met.

Since its launch in March, the Healthy City program has promoted healthier lifestyles and proactive health management. According to the SSM, this program integrates existing efforts such as the “Healthy Enterprise” initiative, which involves 26 companies and over 100,000 employees, and the “Healthy Campus” program, which covers more than 150,000 students and teachers.

Dr. Chan Tan Mui, public health consultant at the Disease Prevention and Control Center, highlighted the survey’s expanded scope, noting that new testing items will be added to address residents’ concerns.

These include nasopharyngeal cancer risk assessments, hearing evaluations, and physical fitness measurements.
