MGM Cotai wins six accolades at Asia Property Awards 2017

MGM Cotai has been recognized with six awards in three categories at both regional and local levels at the Asia Property Awards 2017 held in Singapore on November 8.

This is MGM Cotai’s second property recognition before it even is officially opened, after it was awarded the largest property and is the first private sector project to achieve the China Green Building (Macau) Design Label Certification.

In a press release issued by the gaming operator, MGM said that the awards highlight the company’s achievements in the field of resort development and architectural design within the competitive regional property arena.

The three regional awards included ‘Best Hotel Development (Asia),’ ‘Best Hotel Architectural Design (Asia)’ and ‘Best Universal Design Development (Asia)’.

The property also acquired three local awards, which included ‘Best Integrated Hotel Resort Development (Macau),’ ‘Best Contemporary Hotel Architectural Design (Macau)’ and ‘Best Universal Design Development (Macau)’.

“In the design concept phase, we set out with the vision to develop the most sustainable and innovative integrated resort in the city that would support the development of Macau as the World Center of Tourism and Leisure,” said Grant Bowie, CEO and executive director of MGM China Holdings Limited.

“These accolades not only recognize our pursuit of excellence in this project, but also further promote MGM Cotai as the future icon of Macau,” he added.

Meanwhile Paul Tse, chairman of the Hong Kong and Macau panel of judges of the Asia Property Awards and a member of the Asia Grand Final panel of judges, noted that Macau fared well in the contest. “It is extremely gratifying to see that winners in the Best Hotel categories of the Asia Property Awards and the China Property Awards over the years have included some of the most luxurious and unique hotels and resorts from the region,” he said.

“Given the high standard of hotels completed in Macau, it is not surprising that Macau again came out on top and we are delighted to see MGM Cotai and its unique design garnering so many awards,” Tse added.

This year,  developers from the Asian markets were selected to join the shortlist of the Asia Property Awards by an independent panel of judges, following several months of nomination, judging and site visits supervised by accountancy and auditing firm BDO.

Slated to open on January 29, MGM is the latest addition to the group’s portfolio in China. Designed as the “jewelry box” of Cotai, it plans to offer approximately 1,400 hotel rooms and suites, meeting spaces, high-end spas, retail offerings and food and beverage outlets.

According to the MGM China, the new integrated resort “is being developed to drive greater product diversification and bring more advanced and innovative forms of entertainment to Macau as it grows as a global tourist destination.”
