More drivers reported using cellphones while driving

2-trafficFar more road users are recorded to have their eyes on their mobile phones whilst driving in the first seven months of this year, in comparison to the equivalent period last year, the Public Security Police Force’s latest data highlights.
For private car drivers, the total of 2,238 cases recorded in that period is roughly 13 times higher than the number the region saw last year. Such a number alone is even sevenfold all the offenders caught throughout the whole of last year.
Only 188 offenses have been recorded when it comes to motorcyclists, yet the number has still increased by 2.8 times year-
on-year and the entire number has gone up 1.9 times for the whole year.
The figures released also suggest that drivers in the first half of the year are more likely to forget to fasten their seatbelts than compared to the same period last year, given that the number of cases climbed 7.5 times. Similarly, the number of scooters caught carrying minors aged below six has risen almost fivefold.
The total amount of traffic accidents in the first seven months totaled 9,045, suggesting a year-on-year increment of 1.33 percent. Last year’s eight fatal collisions were among the accidents.
Jaywalking offences continued to have dwindled by around 75 percent to merely 355 incidences.
