Mountain of construction waste rises in Cotai

A mountain of construction materials has reportedly been growing on a plot near the Macau East Asian Games Dome, with neighboring residents stating that it started to show up about six months ago, according to a report by the Macao Daily News.
On Friday, officers from the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSAP) requested the person in charge to take immediate action. However, there have yet to be any changes and DSAP has not received any complaints concerning the pollution around the place.
The mountain was initially suspected of being a treatment plant for construction waste, since all inert discarded materials are supposed to be piled up before any solution can be applied to them, as is required by DSAP, which denied that initial supposition. Moreover, DSAP commented that no obvious signs of dust have been spotted flying over said location, and that instructions regarding plot contamination control have again been forwarded to the responsible parties. The department will continue to inspect this issue closely.
According to the report, the plot of land belongs to the Macau Theme Park and Resort, a company controlled by Angela Leong, who is also SJM’s managing director. The land spans 100,000 square meters and is intended to be used for the construction of a theme park and hotels.
