Elevator control of luxury residential building catches fire

The roof-top elevator mechanical room of the Phoenix Terrace, a luxury residential skyscraper situated at the intersection of Avenida de Sidónio Pais and Avenida do Colonel Mesquita, caught fire on Monday evening, triggering a call out from the Fire Services Bureau. Preliminary investigation attributed the fire to a short-circuit malfunction in the machine’s control box. While 150 residents were evacuated, no injuries were recorded. The building’s security guards notified residents of the need to evacuate by knocking on their doors.
