MUST survey uncovers promising trends on employee confidence

In a recent survey conducted by the Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), researchers have uncovered promising trends regarding employee confidence and satisfaction in Macau.

Using a 5-point scale, this year’s Employee Confidence Index reached 3.04, representing a 4.37% increase from the previous year. Additionally, the Satisfaction Index (SI) saw a 7.94% year-over-year rise, reaching 3.23.

A closer look at the data reveals that confidence in the local labor market increased by single-digit percentages.

The Employee Satisfaction Index’s four sub-indices also showed improvements, with Job Stability demonstrating the largest increase of nearly 11%, followed by a 8.05% rise in Job Treatment.

According to Lap Wan Ching, the professor responsible for this study, this year’s indices have already returned to 2019 levels, reflecting Macau’s societal and economic resilience in the face of recent challenges. The survey was conducted between April 9 and 24, 2024, gathering responses from 806 full-time Macau-based employees.

For the researchers, these findings suggest a positive trajectory for Macau’s workforce, as the city continues to recover and normalize operations following the impact of previous disruptions.
