New wholesale market concession to last until 2022

Details of the concession giving exclusive operation rights of the Macau’s new wholesale market to Sociedade do Mercado Abastecedor de Macau Nam Yue, Limitada, were published in the government’s Official Gazette yesterday, announcing that the concession will last until April 15, 2022.

The government holds the right to terminate the concession on the ground of public interest.

The Nam Yue wholesale market has been relocated to Ilha Verde, occupying a space twice the size of the old premises.

The market is a 12-story building, including three stories for parking lots located underground.

The Nam Yue group will operate and manage the wholesale activities from the ground floor up to the third floor.

The rest of the building will be within the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau’s (IACM) administration.

Earlier, the Chief Executive signed an order announcing that the Nam Yue group was exempted of opening public tenders for this concession.

According to IACM’s president José Tavares, the new market has the capacity for approximately 235 stalls.

The concession also stipulates that Nam Yue shall not restrict or obstruct any source of products illegally imported to Macau from entering the wholesale market.
