The Impact of Different Terrains in

The Greater Bay Area on The Local Economy

Author: Jin Deng

Journal: Frontiers in Business, Economics and Management, 2023

This study explores the economic effects of geographic diversity within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), analyzing economic indicators such as GDP, industrial output, and population density across 11 administrative regions. The research categorizes these regions into three developmental levels, highlighting the diminished economic radiation from central to peripheral cities as distances increase. The findings emphasize the need for improved transportation links and industrial realignment to enhance regional connectivity and economic integration. Such strategies are suggested to promote balanced economic growth and facilitate the expansion of industry and capital, particularly in peripheral cities less influenced by central economic hubs. Journal: PLOS ONE, 2023

This research examines the structure and evolution of business credit networks within the Hangzhou Bay Greater Bay Area and their influence on sustainable economic development. The study identifies a robust, dense network of business credit that plays a critical role in regional economic activities, promoting private and overall economic growth. However, the alignment of these credit networks with green economy goals remains challenging. The study reveals a departure from the typical financial development paradox in China, suggesting that while business credit has significantly supported economic advancement, its integration with environmental sustainability goals requires strategic adjustments. Recommendations include enhancing policy frameworks to better integrate financial development with green economic practices. FROM THE ABSTRACT

Journal: ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2023

This study analyzes the shifting economic landscape of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) amidst the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data from 2017 to 2022, the study employs spatial analysis tools to assess changes in economic indicators such as investment, consumption, and exports. Results indicate a reconfiguration of economic activities, with a “core-edge” structure becoming prominent. The analysis reveals significant spatial spillovers and the differential impacts of various economic drivers on growth, highlighting the need for region-specific recovery strategies. This paper provides crucial insights for policymakers to formulate interventions that capitalize on investment and innovation while mitigating the adverse impacts of the pandemic on economic distribution and growth.
