Over 3,000 smoking offences logged in 2023

The Health Bureau (SSM) recorded 3,147 cases of smoking offences in the previous year. Of these, 3,101 related to illegal cigarette smoking, 22 involved defect sales, and 24 pertained to the import of e-cigarettes. The top three locations for violations were catering establishments, the airport, and casinos. During the 1.5 months following the enactment of the alcohol law, the SSM issued 1,156 opinions to 760 venues. The smoking and alcohol hotline received 1,503 calls throughout the year, comprising 848 enquiries, 628 complaints, and 109 suggestions. The bureau took appropriate actions in response to these calls.
