Patane Market opens today

The new market in the Municipal Complex of the Patane will open to the public today.
The new venue, located on the Avenida de Demétrio Cinatti, will finally replace the temporary market, offering more space and better living conditions for citizens, according to the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM).
One of the features of the new complex is the car park, that will begin operation on the same day as the market and will be open to the public during market hours, to give shoppers a more convenient way to get to the market, and offers 116 parking spaces for light vehicles, and 194 for motorcycles.

The Activity Center of the Market Complex is in its final stage of construction, with interior decoration and equipment installation currently being done, and is expected to open to the public during the second quarter of this year.

After the rebuild, the Patane Market Complex will feature enlarged areas, distributed over the first three floors of the building.

On the ground floor, there will be 92 stalls for selling fish. The first floor will have 54 stalls dedicated to the sale of produce (pork, beef, frozen and roasted meats, vegetables, fruits and groceries).  The second floor will feature nine refrigerated meat stalls as well as three others selling cooked food. The venue will also feature a food court area with 64 seats.

According to the statement from the IACM, the complex design paid special attention to accessibility, built without architectural barriers, and all floors have toilets suitable for disabled patrons.

At the moment, the IACM is coordinating with the sellers located in the provisional market to ensure a smooth transition into the new complex. The provisional market will be open until Sunday, closing on March 5. On March 6, all the stalls will be open in the new market.
The bureau also noted that since there was damage caused to the building by Typhoon Hato in August last year, a delay was caused in the opening of the market, and that Hato inspired some new structural changes to reduce the chance of similar damage in the future.

The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Sonia Chan, has visited the market yesterday, stating that the new facility is one of the measures planned by the government to improve local citizens quality of life.
