German biophysicist and Nobel laureate specializing in the field of cell physiology, Professor Erwin Neher, is delivering a lecture today at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).
Neher, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine along with Bert Sakmann, in 1991, for their groundbreaking discoveries on the function of single ion channels in cells, will speak as part of MUST’s master lecture series on brain signals.
In March 2016, MUST recognized Neher’s contributions to biomedicine by awarding him with an honorary doctorate in science and inviting him to serve as a distinguished professor to jointly promote traditional Chinese medicine in Macau with the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research.
Under his leadership, the laboratory team has made several breakthroughs in multiple fields, especially in several areas such as clinical research, ion channels, brain neuroscience, cancer research and inflammatory diseases.
The lecture will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the lecture hall in building D. The event is open to the public, and those interested can reserve a place by contacting the MUST public desk. RM
